An evening with Ken Auletta

Ken Auletta, whom the Columbia Journalism Review has ranked as the nation’s premier media critic, spoke at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism last night about Google, the rise of technology companies, and the current state of newspapers. While I don’t necessarily agree with everything Ken said, he offered useful insights into the personalities behind the big tech giants, including Eric Schmidt, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates, and how their perspectives on the world shape their decisions.

Near the end, I ask Ken how he would measure whether journalism is dying or blossoming to which he replied, “it’s subjective.” This, in my mind, is a solvable problem.
